• Tickets are bought through Automatic Ticket Issuing Machines (ATIM) installed in all METRO stations or from Ticket Offices. The ATIMs currently accept only coins and give change, as appropriate. In the future, they will accept bank notes and cash cards.

 
• Before going aboard a train, passengers need to validate their tickets through special Ticket Validating Machines (TVM) installed inside the stations, at some distance from the entrances.

 
• The ticket is valid for 90 minutes from its validation. It ceases to be valid upon your exit from any station (past the Ticket Validating Machines).

 
• An airport bus ticket validated at the airport can be used on the Metro within the 24 hours following its validation time.

 
• There is constant inspection by authorised staff to ensure that passengers carry validated tickets. Passengers without a validated ticket are to pay the legal fine.

* ISAP Metro Line 1 is separated to 3 different zones:

1st Zone: From Pireaus Station to Monastiraki Station

2nd Zone: From Monastiraki Station to Ano Patissia Station

3rd Zone: From Ano Patissia Station to Kifissia Station

BUSSES & TROLLEYS

• Tickets can be purchased at special booths and kiosks near the bus stops.
• Once you are on the bus or trolley, validate your ticket through the ticket validating machines found inside the vehicles. Keep the ticket until you step off the bus, since there is going to be constant inspection by authorised staff to ensure that passengers carry validated tickets. Passengers without a validated ticket are to pay the legal fine.

Busses to & from the airport

• There exist express airport bus connections with Athens centre and the port of Piraeus on a 24h basis. All busses depart from the designated area on the inner curbside of the arrivals level of the Main Terminal Building exactly outside the Schengen Exit (doors 4-5).
• Passengers can buy tickets from the bus drivers.
• The ticket price is 2,90 EURO and it can be used in all means of public transport within 24 hours from its valida- tion.

ETHNIKI AMINA (METRO Line 3) - ELEFTHERIOS VENIZELOS AIRPORT

Line E94 connects the Airport with the Ethniki Amina Metro Station. Passengers can then use the Metro Line 3 to
reach Syntagma, at the centre of Athens.

TAXIS

Taxis in Athens are cheap and easy to catch. You can normally pick them on the road at any time of the day but you can also call a radio taxi (numbers for radio taxis are given below). Have in mind that you would not normally expect to pay anything more than around 4 Euro for moving in the centre of the town and nothing more than around 10 Euro for moving from and to the suburbs, the airport included. Taxi drivers should provide you with a receipt on request but some of them may find the idea exotic… Please, also bear in mind that very often you may find yourself sharing a taxi with other passengers. All in all, taxi drivers in Athens can be a trouble but keep in mind that you can defend your rights. However, it is unlikely that you get odd behaviour from a radio taxi driver.
